Making Tracks: Frequently Asked Questions

Alan Ayckbourn's Archivist Simon Murgatroyd answers some of the most frequently asked questions about Alan Ayckbourn's Making Tracks. If you have a question about this or any other of Alan Ayckbourn's plays, you can contact the website via the Contact Us page.

Is Making Tracks available to perform?
Generally, no. Making Tracks is in something of a grey area in that although it has not officially been withdrawn by the playwright, it is unlikely permission for a production would be approved by the playwright. In theory though, given the right set of circumstances, permission might be obtained for it to be performed.

Will Making Tracks be published?
This is extremely unlikely. The play has never been published and this situation is unlikely to change.

Is it possible to read the play for research purposes?
Copies of the original manuscript are held by both the British Library and within the Ayckbourn Archive in the Borthwick Institute at the University of York, which are accessible for research purposes.
