Making Tracks: Behind The Scenes

Behind The Scenes offers a glimpse at some rarely known facts regarding the writing of Alan Ayckbourn's plays with material drawn from the Ayckbourn Archive at the University Of York and the playwright's personal archive.
  • Making Tracks was partially inspired by Alan Ayckbourn's work as a radio drama producer at the BBC in Leeds, between 1965 and 1970. More specifically, the idea of having a singer unable to hold a note came from a real encounter during this period: "I had actually had an experience with a singer, whom I booked while rather drunk one night in a club, and when we'd got her into the studio, she couldn't sing at all!”
